About Me
I am a 6th year Center for Research on Social Change and Alfred P. Sloan Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.
I was born in Montgomery, AL and raised in a small rural community called Letohatchee, AL.
I finished high school at the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science in Mobile, AL.
I received my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University with a concentration in propulsion systems.
I received my M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2008 with a concentration in product design, and a certificate in Engineering and Business for Sustainability in 2008.
Currently, I work in the Berkeley Expert Systems Technology (BEST) Design Laboratory headed by Dr. Alice Agogino, and my research interests include sustainability, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, design theory, human centered design, ethnographic methodology, user needs assessment, community based design, social life cycle assessment, public participation, and environmental resource conflict resolution.
I am also a co-founder and the project manager for the Community Assessment of Renewable Energy and Sustainability (CARES). CARES began as a project in Dr. Agogino's Sustainable Product Development class in 2007, and I have been able to expand CARES into an organization that tackles the issues of co-designing and implementing sustainable solutions in various communities.
